“So we’re really doing this?” Blue asks.

“New identity for the three of us, two weeks to get our affairs in order.” Chris says.

“They were very reasonable.” Gervais says.

“They were terrifying.” Blue says.

“They said it’s easier to protect us together now.” Chris says.

“But Ocean.” Blue says.

“That poor Adam kid must be terrified.” Gervais says.

“We need to advocate for him to make sure he doesn’t get removed from school.” Blue says.

“Or pay for him to go elsewhere.” Gervais says.

“What will we do about the businesses?” Chris asks.

“When Spence gets back we’ll go home. It can only be for a day at a time, we agreed that with the program and discuss with him what is best. We ought to talk to Claud, Mike and Arnold too but 1 don’t want to. Its stupid to throw away money but we have a lot from Abby and I’d love to give our share to Ocean and Heidi.” Gervais says.

“Ollie too.” Blue says.

“We’ll be a success. If you sell your buildings and they have said they’ll help with that. You have your money, the money you put aside for Blue from profits and from Abby. That is a lot, right? More than we need if we fail? I mean if we fail we have a small holding and can get jobs flipping burgers.” Chris says.

“So we give a small share to Ollie, I can’t believe he doesn’t have one yet, a larger one to Ocean as we all need to know he’ll be secure and give Heidi back her share, if she doesn’t want it, Spence can buy it.” Blue says.

“Okay. I’ll call Ocean and then we need to start getting on with plans.” Gervais says.

“I’ll cook dinner.” Blue says.

“I’ll start lining up viewings of properties.” Chris says.

“At least we have a target area now,” Blue says.

“Amazing that if I get the GRE score they will help me get a place. It is all kinds of wrong but I’m not going to turn the help down.” Chris says.

“We’ll help you study for those scores. What about Bea? Do you want to see her before we go?” Blue asks.

“No I don’t want to interrupt her life and getting to the lake will take too big a chunk out of our time. I kind of want to see momma but I want answers and I know she won’t give them.” Chris says,

Blue nods his head in total agreement.

Ocean rejects the call from Gervais and quickly texts him as he’s shown into coach’s office to meet with various law enforcement people. Coach asks if he can stay to support Ocean and it is agreed he can.

“Is this about the break in? Can 1 check everyone’s id?” Ocean asks confused and worried. He and Garrett had been hanging out and getting pretty flirty when Ocean got the message he was needed in the office by coach, again.

“In a way.” The first man says and everyone flashes their badges.

“You have two friends with a bounty on their heads. Your boyfriend Adam was targeted by someone claiming to be FBI and was asked to help get information on you. He went along with it thinking it was nuts until he saw you had a second phone. He was upset by your reaction, fed back information about it and your room number and the criminal broke in and took your devices. A woman explains.

“So Adam didn’t break in, but feels at fault.” Ocean says bowing his head and feeling bad for his friend.

“Well he is at fault, but he didn’t perform the break in.” The man says.

“So he won’t be in trouble at school? Wait, am I safe? Is Blue?” Ocean asks.

“Your quick thinking closing and changing your accounts helped. Is there any information that could compromise your friends if they manage to hack your accounts?” The woman asks.

“No, the only thing was the one phone number on the phone and that phone has been destroyed.” Ocean says.

“We believe you are safe but due to your closeness to the twins we cannot rule you out from being at risk from kidnapping now it is assumed you are in contact with them. The main worry is your friends being targeted the way Adam was. Coach has agreed to us briefing your team mates and we will talk to the others in your suite. You need to give us a list of others we should contact.” The woman says scaring the life out of Ocean.

“There is no one. Not really. Not here. Any friends at home know the score and are hyper aware even after all this time. Is there a number I can call if anything happens?” Ocean asks.

“Of course. Do you know where your friends are now?” The woman asks.

“No, I got a call from Gervais just now but didn’t take it. I know they cut their vacation short because of me, well the break in, but I don’t know where they went. I guess it is best I never know.” Ocean says sadly knowing the next call with Gervais might be the last for a long time.

“Ocean, I know you enjoy having a single room and I understand why you are not in the athletic dorms but I would feel a whole lot better if you considered moving, so your team mates can watch out for you. I am sure we could find a space.” Coach says.

“That sounds like a good idea. I assume the building has good security.” The woman says.

“It is card and code entry, swipe card to main door and code per floor. It was as issue a few years ago people trying to get to the basketball players. Gymnasts are usually unknown here.” Coach smiles.

“Wouldn’t I be easier to find if I was in the expected place?” Ocean asks worrying.

“But as your coach said there are people who would know you were missing faster, if the worst happened.” The man says.

“Okay. What about everyone at home? What about Nicola? Is she safe?” Ocean asks feeling wave after wave of fear.

“Nicola is as safe as she can be, I understand you know the community there and how tight knit it is. Your friends and family are not under any known risk. Obviously this case has limited resources, it is fortunate for you and your friends that the people who are likely to pose as risk to you are on our radar due to other issues.” The man says.

“Ocean take care of yourself, focus on staying safe and try to enjoy college. We will give you and your coach a list of contacts and things to watch for. We’ll brief you team now.” The woman says.

“Can I call Gervais back?” Ocean asks and the woman nods.

Ocean doesn’t want to see the looks from his team mates as they are briefed, he finally felt fully integrated with the team and now is going to be set apart again.

“Hey G, how did it go?” Ocean asks putting on a cheery front.

“Good we have 2 weeks to sort everything and then we’ll be gone.” Gervais says.

“Okay. I had a bunch of people here to see me to talk about safety. Are the twins okay?” Ocean asks.

“Yeah they’ll talk to you in a moment. Please talk to Spence when he gets back. Stay safe kid. We heard about Adam.” Gervais says.

“I feel so bad that he got caught up in things. I’m going to ask him out to dinner tonight, try and save things.” Ocean says.

“As long as he isn’t a jealous monster.” Gervais says.

“I figure he isn’t and we had a lot of fun together before the incident.” Ocean says.

“How is the hotel? Any news on your room?” Gervais asks.

“I’m being pressured to move into the athlete dorm. I’m not happy about it, especially as I’ll probably lose my single. The hotel is awesome though. Garrett stayed over last night to use the tub and we had a lot of fun talking and watching tv.” Ocean says brightly.

“Are you sure you want to rekindle with Adam, Sounds like Garrett likes you, he always liked you if I remember rightly from summer camp a few years ago.” Gervais teases.

“He’s a friend, a flirty friend maybe but just a friend. I liked Adam and he seemed to like me. It was nice being with someone who had no preconception about who I was.” Ocean says.

“Well just be careful.” Gervais says.

“I will,” Ocean smiles.

“Hey banana boy.” Blue says coming over and Ocean beams at how much better he looks.

“You look good.” Ocean says.

“Thanks. I am finally taking a bit more care of myself, got a haircut.” Blue grins.

“It looks really hot. You better take good care of Gervais for me.” Ocean says.

“This isn’t the end kid.” Blue says.

“They say there is a bounty on your head.” Ocean says.

“I heard that too. They get more if they get us both, but we’re tired of living in fear.” Blue says.

“They are letting you be together?” Ocean asks.

“Yes, they did some heavy hitting and showed us strong evidence about why we shouldn’t be us. But they accept that we can’t live apart either. We have plans and Spence will make sure we don’t lose touch. You know we’ll stream every one of your meets and we’ll be cheering you on from wherever we are. On the business front we need to sort some things for you. Officially sign the house over to you and also we’d like you to take the bulk of Gervais share in the business. To make sure you have an income.” Blue says.

“No I couldn’t.” Ocean says overwhelmed.

“Yes you can kid.” Chris says coming in to view.

“You inspired me so much with the ice-cream. You know you did and you were there for me then and for Gervais when I left. If you sell it later that is up to you. We figure your mom will happily see to your interest when you’re at school and we all trust her. But we want you to have it not her. We’re giving some to Ollie and Heidi too. Time Heidi was represented again.” Blue says.

“Okay. But that means the others could all band against me in decisions. Ocean says.

“They could. But the chances of Claud and Ollie not siding with you are slim and Heidi would never.” Blue says.

“Oh wow. You’re Okay if I don’t go in to the business?” Ocean asks.

“We’re not in the business. You just need to be aware of the basics and take advice from those you trust.” Gervais says.

“Will you tell Robin?” Ocean asks.

“Yes, I will see him shortly.” Gervais says.

“Best of luck.” Ocean says.

“You be good, train hard and we will see you when we can.” Blue says sadly.

“Thanks for everything kid. You saved our lives and we can’t thank you enough.” Chris says shyly.

“You guys got me here. Love you all.” Ocean says and disconnects before he starts sobbing.

“It’s only 3 months.” Blue says holding Gervais as he starts to crumple.

“You wouldn’t have seen him much in that time anyway. Only at meets.” Chris says joining the hug.

“I know. It just feels so final.” Gervais says.

‘”Well it isn’t. We’re going to be us, in the program but not hiding our true selves. You heard what they said, we might draw out people they are after. That is why they are willing to help us. Blue and I would not have made it to 30. We know we wouldn’t. We’ve both been dead inside for years. You don’t have to come. You know that. But we would much prefer it if you do.” Chris says.

“Oh I’m coming. Ocean will stay in our lives somehow. He and Spence will find a way. We all know that. It is just scary for me, where I guess things are looking up for you.” Gervais says.

“We’re here for you. We all have each other. Ocean has been a good friend to you but you couldn’t fully confide in him. You have us now.” Blue says.

“Oh I know this is going to be better for me. We’re going to serve coffee and cake, look after animals and make some wine. We’ll have an awesome life.” Gervais says.

“I have set up visits to three places tomorrow. G you need to pay for these flights and car hire.” Chris says.

“Okay pass it over.” Gervais says.

They have an early night, their flight is first thing and they are all sleepy from the lack of sleep the night before.

They visit three properties and none seems keen to say what they think. They settle down to dinner in silence.

“Honestly I loved the second one. I know that the old college is the better buy but the former dairy farm just felt like home.” Blue says finally.

“The dairy farm was perfect. The three houses, one for you two, one for me and the big one for guests and a café could. The cowsheds can be converted for animals of all sorts the barn would house goats or whatever. I don’t see at all why you thought the college was better, sure it was bigger and cheaper but it had nowhere for us to live right away.” Chris says.

“The dairy had nowhere for a vineyard. Not really and the college did.” Gervais says trying to be practical.

“We could bank some of the fields. It had so much grazing space that could be repurposed. The main drawback is the distance from the city.” Chris says.

“But it was pretty and was not far from that beautiful lake. Lots of places for people who are wanting a break to enjoy without being too far a drive. And from searching I couldn’t find restaurants, or cafes in the area. A few places attached to gas stations nothing that could be considered fancy. I think we could draw locals in for special occasions. Mothers day for example.” Blue says.

“Graduation, special birthdays.” Chris says.

“We’re all agreed, it isn’t perfect but it was home and it is in budget and gives more space than we need.” Gervais says.

“Exactly and so we can always sell some land if we have to later. Chris is right it gave us homes to start with, with a lot less work needing doing than my house needed.” Blue says.

“We’re doing this bro. You trust me?” Chris asks.

“You know I do. You’re not that guy anymore. We’re doing this. Gervais isn’t going to run off to Europe, I’m not going to run away and you are not going to wreak havoc.” Blue grins.

“I love you two. Thanks for letting me tag along.” Gervais grins.

“We love you too.” Blue and Chris say together.

The following day they fly out to Gervais home town to visit with his lawyer. They also meet with Robin’s mom for lunch. Gervais invited her on a whim, without telling the twins, or her about them being there and is a little apprehensive about their reaction.

He needn’t have worried.

“I couldn’t go without saying goodbye. I know we don’t talk often but I knew you were the one person who would truly worry about me.” Gervais says after a quick explanation.

“It is so good to see you.” Blue says through tears.

“Gervais, I never thought you could surprise me but you have.” Robin’s mom says.

“Thanks for driving up here.” Gervais says.

“I told you boys, you only need to ask and I’ll be there, I meant it a decade ago and I mean it now you’re all grown up.” Robin’s mom says.

“I kind of sprung this on everyone. I just thought as we’d be so close. Gervais says.

“It’s fine. It was a good idea.” Chris says quietly.

“So have you two been together all along?” Robin’s mom asks.

“No we were recently reunited. Neither of us has been in contact with anyone we know the whole time.” Blue says.

“And you are off again soon, but together. It is a comfort to me that you’ll have each other. I have worried so much about you:” Robin’s mom says.

“Shame your son didn’t.” Chris says bluntly.

“I know you all probably judge Robin but he does work hard for that company. If it wasn’t him it would be someone else, someone from outside. Who knows, even if you had been here he might have risen to where he is.” Robin’s mom says.

“It will never not feel mercenary to us.” Chris says.

“And I understand that. It wasn’t the path I expected either but he loves it and is dedicated. How he got there was not ideal for your friendships but now he is there he is doing a good job and the company is growing and the quality of the products has not been compromised.” Robin’s mom says.

“Because I won’t let him change from the original ethos.” Gervais says.

“Can we forget it? The business was never really mine and it never will be now. Lets enjoy a lovely afternoon. What are the girls up to now?” Blue asks.

“Well my eldest daughter is a pastry chef. All thanks to you. She got her associates at our insistence and then went to culinary school, trained in Paris and in Melbourne, Australia and now works in New York. That gingerbread city started something for her and I will always be grateful you gave her that. The younger one is in medical school and doing wonderfully, overworked and stressed but she will get through it. I have been incredibly blessed.” Robin’s mom says.

“Send them my love.” Blue says.

They spend another hour together catching up and enjoying being together. Later that night Blue and Gervais have a room alone. Chris is trying for a local random.

“Thanks for today.” Blue says as they lie in bed.

“Just felt the right thing to do. I know others will worry but she had nothing to do with anything and I love her and don’t want her to worry anymore.” Gervais says.

“You don’t need to justify yourself. She did so much for you and I get why you did it. Chris and I are not mad.” Blue says.

“You seem so much better, your head is clearer.” Gervais says.

“Thanks to you looking after me.” Blue says and kisses Gervais neck and ear. He’s spooning Gervais and really enjoying the closeness.

“I love taking care of you. I love you cooking and taking care of us.” Gervais says.

“This is so nice. Sorry.” Blue says moving away.

“What?” Gervais asks.
